GoSCA (Guidance on Safety Critical Assignment)
Guidance on Safety Critical Assignment (GoSCA) has been developed to allow the application of a standardised approach for safety criticality identification. The system allows the accurate assignment of safety critical status at a tagged item level within the maintenance management system. The system ensures that the process is repeatable and that accurate and auditable records of safety critical status for all equipment on an asset are maintained. Management confidence is increased as KPI reporting of related safety critical elements are seen to be more accurate and reliable.
- To enable more accurate SCE-related maintenance KPI reporting
- To align with asset performance standards and hence legislative requirements
GoSCA System Overview
qedi developed software and database allows a two-stage selection of all equipment tags in order for them to be assigned a Safety Critical status, primarily through a series of automated assessment steps and secondly through manual assessment and assignment.

Why use GoSCA
GoSCA allows the operator to meet its legislative requirement to adequately demonstrate to the Certifying Authority which equipment is regarded as being Safety Critical.
GoSCA is a system that can
- Be used to identify safety critical equipment
- Interface with a CMMS at tag level
- Be used to demonstrate to the certifying authority which equipment is safety critical
- Produce accurate and auditable records of safety critical status for all equipment on an asset
- Apply a standard approach to identifying safety critical equipment
- Display all equipment tags on a colour coded matrix in system grouping
- Be used on a facility from detailed design until asset de-commissioning

Benefits of GoSCA
- Gives a sure footing for identification of Safety Critical work
- Allows complete auditability of Safety critical equipment for the whole Asset
- Links all SCE tags with Performance standards
- Makes reporting of Key Performance Indicators more accurate
- For every SCE tag there is a criteria associated
- Gives a standard list of Safety Critical equipment
- SCA system can be used throughout the project life cycle
