GoCAST
Guidance on Consequence Analysis Screening Tool (GoCAST) is a set of proven consequence and risk models, designed for the Oil and Gas industry, which can be used to evaluate the magnitude and frequency of hazards, and perform rapid risk screening of alternative scenarios. GoCAST has a range of features not normally available in one package, and certainly not at the same price level. GoCAST is based on internationally recognised algorithms, developed within an Excel environment and uses Visual Basic forms and Excel spreadsheets to provide a user-friendly interface. A comprehensive user manual is provided, and the user has the facility to load in customised data, e.g. material properties, leak frequency data.
The following models are provided, either as single value or time dependent routines:
- Gas, liquid and two-phase release rates
- Process equipment & piping leak frequency
- Gas / smoke ingress
- Gas accumulation
- Ignition probability
- Flame length and thermal radiation (jet and pool fires)
- Helicopter transport risk
- Occupational risk
The following are some examples of consequence and risk modeling scenarios which provide both tabular and graphical output:
- Gas release from vessel, pipeline or riser (with / without isolation and blowdown), showing leak rate, pressure decay, blowdown rate and jet flame length over time
- Two phase release from vessel with / without isolation and blowdown, showing gas/ liquid release rates, vessel pressure, pool fire size and jet flame length over time
- Liquid release from system during pump rundown, showing leak rate, pressure decay and pool fire size over time
- Gas / smoke ingress into manned enclosure with variable ventilation rate and activity level, showing the time to visual, toxic or flammable impairment
- Accumulation of gas from leak in a confined space with variable equipment density, showing the flammability level over time
- Offshore helicopter travel with variable number of personnel on board and shift patterns, showing individual risk and overall potential loss of life
- Normal occupational risks, showing fatal accident rates for individual worker groups, based on exposed man-hours in the UK offshore industry
Additional features include:
- The ability to reverse-calculate flame sizes to release rates to hole sizes
- All output is to an Excel file allowing further processing of results. No need to import results from text files
- All input data saved with results
- Ability to import input data from previous run or previously saved results file. No need to input the data manually
- Output from time dependent release models can be used as input to the time dependent smoke & gas ingress and accumulation models.
- Material properties calculated with GoCAST
- Ability to add additional materials
